A beautiful smile can make you the center of attention at any event, positively influencing your confidence and well-being. In fact, around 60% of people are reported to feel that straight teeth make them more confident and happy. That being said, more than one-third of American adults are unhappy with their smile, according to a new study by the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO)   Now more than ever, adults are beginning to opt for corrective cosmetic treatments that help enhance their smiles. Invisalign is one such procedure that helps adults achieve a picture-perfect smile without the pain of going through with years of braces!

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a relatively new orthodontic procedure that uses a computer-generated mold to realign your crooked teeth, correct your bite, and straighten out your pearly whites. Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible and work by using a series of plastic trays that gradually shift your teeth into place.  Each tray is fabricated so that the teeth are slightly straighter than the previous tray, moving up to 0.25 mm per tray. Every two weeks, you will receive a new tray that accommodates the new positions of your teeth.

How does Invisalign work?

If you are eager to swap out your crooked gnashers for a set of perfectly aligned teeth, you may be curious about how you can get that. Your dentist can give you a meticulously contrived smile with the help of Invisalign. If you are considering getting Invisalign, it helps to know what to expect first.

  • Consultation:

Before you can receive your aligner, you must first speak to your dentist. During this appointment, your teeth will be examined to determine if Invisalign is the best treatment option for your dental and oral health.  Although Invisalign can correct most of the dental issues that a set of metal braces can, some of the more severe orthodontic problems may not be effectively corrected with Invisalign. Nonetheless, your dentist will recommend the best treatment option for you.

  • X-rays:

Next, your dentist will take x-rays of your teeth to evaluate the extent of damage and disfigurement. These radiographs are crucial to help them visualize the overall structure of your mouth and will help them customize a treatment plan best suited for you.

  • Impression taking:

The procedure will then begin with a digital scan. Your dentist will take an impression of your oral structures and then create a digital 3D model out of it. This model will be a direct replica of your mouth and will allow the fabrication of clear aligners that perfectly compliment you and give great outcomes.

  • Fabrication and seating:

The data of your oral structures will then be transferred to the fabrication plant which delivers the finished product to your dentist. These custom-made Invisalign aligners will ensure a flawless fit to effectively help your teeth move into alignment.

  • Follow-up:

After receiving your Invisalign clear aligners, you should schedule follow-up appointments with your dentist. These appointments will help them check the progress of your treatment. Every seven to ten days, your Invisalign aligners will be swapped. If worn properly, Invisalign treatments have shown to correct malalignment as early as ten weeks.
