Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns are tooth-colored restorations that are designed to fit over a single tooth and mimic its appearance. Dental bridges cover three or more teeth at a time, and they can also protect and restore teeth or replace them altogether. To learn more about our restorative options or schedule an appointment with our office, please give us a call or send us a message, and we will be happy to assist you!

What are dental crowns and bridges used for?

Dental crowns and dental bridges are used for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Shielding teeth from further deterioration
  • Supporting teeth weakened by decay and damage
  • Holding broken or cracked teeth together
  • Covering esthetic imperfections
  • Replacing missing teeth (bridges)

How are teeth prepared for dental bridges and crowns?

Before a bridge or a crown can be placed, the teeth must be reshaped so that the restoration can fit over them without looking bulky or unnatural. Our team will administer local anesthetic to numb the mouth, reshape the tooth or teeth, and take impressions. These impressions are used to design and create a custom restoration. A follow-up visit will need to be scheduled to remove the temporary crown or bridge, place the permanent one, and make any necessary modifications to ensure that it looks and feels great.

How long do dental crowns and bridges last?

Dental crowns and bridges can last up to 10-15 years when properly cared for. While dental bridges and crowns are designed to protect the teeth that they are placed over, patients should still practice great oral hygiene at home and visit our office for regular cleanings and exams. You should also avoid chewing things that should not be chewed with natural teeth, like ice and hard candy. We will let you know when we believe your crown or bridge needs to be replaced, and our team will be happy to create and place a new custom restoration for you.
